To support the MHRA Alert MDA/2010/073, Vygon offers a wide range of multi-lumen extension sets with integrated anti-reflux valves (ARVs). These prevent the inadvertent backtracking and subsequent risk of drug overdose when running multiple infusions at different rates.
Drug loss prevention The Bionector Octopus range is produced with biocompatible PUR tubing to help prevent the risk of drug loss which can occur with PVC tubing.(8) Central lines and syringe drivers do not contain PVC within the fluid pathway, with Bionector you can be assured youÕre not putting PVC into the patientÕs IV circuit. Issues with PVC drug interactions are supported by BionectorÕs drug compatibility studies (Study Six).
No common dead space Multi-lumen Octopus extension sets maintain separate fluid pathways right up to the catheter hub, preventing the mixing of incompatible drugs within the extension set.
Reduced catheter manipulation The range is equipped with a freely rotating male luer-locking collar to enable easier connection to the IV catheterÕs female luer, helping reduce mechanical phlebitis and associated complications.

Triple-layer extension tube (PVC/ EVA/PE) with 3-way stopcock and Bionector. Diameter of the extension tube: 2.5 x 4.0 mm. The extension tubes code 5141.00, 5141.01 and 5141.10 are supplied with 1 Bionector fitted on the lateral port of the stopcock and with a simple male Luer-lock obturator on the second port of the stopcock. The extension tubes code 5141.001 and 5141.011 are supplied with 2 Bionector (each port of the stopcock is fitted with a Bionector). Bionector is a multi-purpose, closed, needle-free, small-size IV connection accessory for blood sampling, intermittent injections or continuous infusion of fluids or drugs. Bionector has a very easily disinfectable membrane (disinfection must be carried out before and after use) which closes automatically when the infusion line or the syringe is disconnected. Protect-a-set (code 836.02) and Octopus 2 (other codes) are polyurethane, transparent, supple with low dead space double-lumen extension tubes for IV catheters (peripheral or central venous) fitted with one or 2 Bionector. To identify the different infusion lines, each line has a hub or a clamp of a different colour. They allow to connect to the catheter several independant IV lines.
