How Do You Get a Pressure Ulcer?
Pressure ulcers, also known as bedsores or pressure sores, are injuries to skin and underlying tissue that result from prolonged pressure on the skin. Bedsores most often develop on skin that covers bony areas of the body, such as the heels, ankles, hips and coccyx (tailbone).
People most at risk of pressure sores are those with health conditions that limit their ability to change positions, or those who spend most of their time in a bed or chair.
