When used for neuraxial and regional anaesthesia, universal Luer connections have led to administrative errors1 , which in some cases has proven fatal2 . Problems occurred when intravenous (IV) medicines were administered by the spinal route and vice versa; when anaesthetics were delivered through IV lines3 .

The solution

To support the MHRA Alert MDA/2010/073, Vygon offers a wide range of multi-lumen extension sets with integrated
anti-reflux valves (ARVs). These prevent the inadvertent backtracking and subsequent risk of drug overdose when running
multiple infusions at different rates.

Drug loss prevention
The Bionector Octopus range is produced with biocompatible PUR tubing to help prevent the risk of drug loss
which can occur with PVC tubing.(8) Central lines and syringe drivers do not contain PVC within the fluid pathway,
with Bionector you can be assured youÕre not putting PVC into the patientÕs IV circuit. Issues with PVC drug
interactions are supported by BionectorÕs drug compatibility studies (Study Six).

No common dead space

The Boussignac CPAP and its manometer connector is a device for connection to a face mask with its 22 mm male connector, the crenellated upper part remaining open to the air.
This device comprises 2 lateral ports:
- The upper port is preconnected to a an extension tube (length 200 cm) for connection to an air or oxygen source
- The bottom port (colourless translucent) allows:
. controlling pressure (use manometer code 527.01),
. an additional oxygen supply if the gas administered to the patient via the upper port is air,
. CO2 monitoring.

How it works:
The gases administered to the patient (air, air-oxygen mixture or pure oxygen) pass through the extension tube and arrive in a circular chamber where the gases can only escape into the central zone passing through 4 micro-channels. At that moment, the injection speed of the gases is greatly increased. Deflector at the exit site of the micro-channels eject the gases arriving at high speed towards the opposite wall.
The collision of gas molecules between themselves generates a turbulence which creates a virtual valve and simultaneously the speed of gases is transformed in pressure. This pressure depends directly on the flowrate: if the flowrate (the amount of gas injected) is increased, the pressure will increase; if the flowrate is decreased, the pressure will decrease.

N.B. It is possible to connect the Boussignac CPAP to an endotracheal tube or to a tracheostomy tube using the adaptor code 555.01 together with an artificial nose such as Hygroflux code 501.01.

Respiratory assistance device for patients with spontaneous ventilation allowing maintenance in the airways of a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure during the entire respiratory cycle.
The CPAP mode of ventilation allows:

- to redistribute the alveolar liquid to the interstitial space in case of acute pulmonary oedema

The Boussignac CPAP and its manometer connector is a device for connection to a face mask with its 22 mm male connector, the crenellated upper part remaining open to the air.
This device comprises 2 lateral ports:
- the upper port is preconnected to a an extension tube (length 200 cm) for connection to an air or oxygen source
- the bottom port (colourless translucent) allows:. controlling pressure (use manometer code 527.01). an additional oxygen supply if the gas administered to the patient via the upper port is air. CO2 monitoring

How it works:
The gases administered to the patient (air, air-oxygen mixture or pure oxygen) pass through the extension tube and arrive in a circular chamber where the gases can only escape into the central zone passing through 4 micro-channels. At that moment, the injection speed of the gases is greatly increased. Deflector at the exit site of the micro-channels eject the gases arriving at high speed towards the opposite wall.
The collision of gas molecules between themselves generates a turbulence which creates a virtual valve and simultaneously the speed of gases is transformed in pressure. This pressure depends directly on the flowrate: if the flowrate (the amount of gas injected) is increased, the pressure will increase; if the flowrate is decreased, the pressure will decrease.

Description of the device

QimoHarpoon is a device designed for the reconstitution and withdrawal of high-risk medications. With QimoHarpoon, it is possible to dissolve powdered drugs or lyophilisates and to repeatedly withdraw drugs with a syringe from the same vial/bottle.
QimoHarpoon is a needle-free device with a metallic tube (acting as air-intake device) connected to a balloon (50 cc volume). The function of the balloon is to prevent the emission of toxic vapour from the vial and to allow injection and drug aspiration while equalizing pressure in a closed system.

QimoHarpoon is made of:
_ a harpoon-shaped spike which perforates the vial/bottle stopper and which cannot be removed from the vial. An opening is located on the harpoon which facilitates injection of the fluid for reconstitution and allows the drawing-up of the final reconstituted solution. From this opening the very last drops of drug can be drawn-up by pulling delicately until the harpoon stops against the cap of the vial.
_ a mobile metallic tubing, acting as an air-intake device connected to a balloon filled with sterile air. When this metallic tube is pushed to the bottom of the vial*, the pressure will be equalized and the toxic vapours confined within the balloon.
_ a tight protective cover between the base of the spike and the neck of the vial to avoid any contamination with fluids which could leak from the cap of the vial.
_ a Qimo Female port, needle-free device, multi-purpose, closed IV connector. Qimo Female can be accessed with any male Luer or Luer-lock syringe or with the Luer bayonet end of Qimo Male.
