Micro Medical Pulmolife COPD Screening Device

Quick and simple COPD screening in adult smokers

The device features a clear LCD display which displays a choice of parameters including % of predicted FEV1. The screen can also show an image of a male or female smoker illustrating the damage that can be caused by smoking.The PulmoLife COPD Screening and Lung Age Meter offers a quick and simple approach to screening adult smokers for the symptoms of COPD and is perfect for use by GPs in the surgery or on home visits.

The PulmoLife can save time and money by rapidly identifying patients who may require a full spirometry test.

Suitable for:

  • FEV1 testing programs;
  • Identification of early signs of COPD in smokers over 40 or anyone with symptoms;
  • Helping susceptible smokers to quit;

FEV1 and FEV1 % predicted:

Forced Expiratory Volume in the First Second of Expiration. The use of FEV1 is well documented as a useful diagnostic tool for the detection of early COPD. When comparing its result against predicted values and using patients FEV1 result as a percentage of predicted values (FEV1 % predicted) the likelihood and severity of COPD can be seen.

ÔLung AgeÕ:

In addition to comparing patients FEV1 results with the predicted reference values for normal subjects, estimation of ÔLung AgeÕ can be used to demonstrate to smokers the damage caused to their lungs by smoking in a way they can understand. The ÔLung AgeÕ estimation is based on a patients FEV1 results and predicted values. A ÔLung AgeÕ example; a 40 year old 5Õ9" (1.75m) male smoker has an FEV1 of 3.4L giving an estimated ÔLung AgeÕ of 52 years. This is because the FEV1 is 100% of the predicted value that a 52 year old would be expected to get.
